The current debate on atheism is far more profound and far reaching than one that is merely between those who have a theistic belief, and those who oppose this view. Within the 'New Atheist' community there are many who would disagree with its current high profile champions - Dawkins, Hitchens and Dennett, and who adhere to a more 'classical' stance on their atheist principles. Others cite the failure of the new atheists to prove their viewpoint, take a sceptical line that 'science' is not a new religion that in itself is necessarily always rights, or seek to disprove Dawkins through current religious and spiritual thinking.
The following articles, from a wide range of opinions, seek to further the debate by refuting the New Atheist stance.
» “The Atheist Delusion“ by John Gray.
» “Fiction and Conviction“ by Simon Blackburn.
» “Religion and Respect“ by Simon Blackburn.
» “God debates“ by John Habgood.
» “The end of postmodernism: the 'new atheists' and democracy“ by Tina Beattie.
» “How to be Agnostic“ by Mark Vernon.
» “The New Atheists, The Twilight of Reason and the War on Religion“ excerpt from the book by Tina Beattie. Published by Darton, Longman & Todd Ltd, 2007, Tel: 020 8875 0155
» “After Atheism: Science, Religion and the Meaning of Life“ excerpt from the book by Mark Vernon. Published by Palgrave Macmillan, 2007.
